Ampthill. General Election 1950. This series of pictures show the eventual winner Alan Lennox- Boyd, Conservative, outside the Ampthill Register Office, following his nomination . One of his opponents, Kenneth Martell, Liberal, is standing to his right.
Alan Lennox-Boyd, Conservative, was elected, as he had been in every General Election since 1931. Nationally the Election resulted in Labour receiving a slim majority of just 5 seats over all other parties, and the party called another General Election in 1951 which the Conservatives won with an overall majority of 17.
