DESCRIPTION: Ampthill. General Election 1950. This series of pictures shows the Polling Station at the School on The Sands, Woburn Street, and then at the Courthouse in Church Street where the result was announced. Alan Lennox-Boyd, Conservative, was elected, as he had been in every General Election since 1931. Nationally the Election resulted in Labour receiving a slim majority of just 5 seats over all other parties, and the party called another General Election in 1951 which the Conservatives won with an overall majority of 17. 23 Feb 1950.
