The Cedars, Flitwick Road, Ampthill. This is as it was circa 1900 - surrounded by fields - the one in the foreground with a crop of lavender - an important local industry. Much has been written elsewhere about the history of poor peoples welfare in Ampthill. The facility has had various names over the years - including 'Union Workhouse' 'Workhouse' 'House Of Industry' 'Institution' and finally 'The Cedars'
